The 4th Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale 2009

5 September – 23 November, 2009
Around 500 people gathered at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum on 4 September to celebrate the opening of the “The 4th Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale 2009.” The event features 43 artists and artist units from 21 countries throughout Asia. In addition to well known artists such as India’s Subodh Gupta, Thailand’s Navin Rawanchaikul and China’s Xu Bing, the organizers also included lesser known artists from countries such as Laos’ Marisa Darasavath and Cambodia’s Leang Seckon. Seckon is one of the artists who has has been invited to Fukuoka to make a work (in his case, a 90-meter-long dragon) with the help of local residents. This, the fourth triennale, was delayed by one year so as to coincide with the museum’s 10th anniversary.
