About

Japanese Art Scene Monitor is a bi-monthly newsletter on the Japanese contemporary art scene. It is published by the Australian Embassy, Tokyo, and delivered free by email (PDF) to all interested persons. Click here to subscribe.

Monitor is researched, written and produced by Edan Corkill. All back issues of Monitor are stored, along with copies of all original materials, at the Australian Embassy, Tokyo.

The objective of Japanese Art Scene Monitor is to provide Australians with:

  1. an understanding of the background, workings and nature of the Japanese art scene;
  2. up-to-date information on the important issues and trends in the Japanese art scene;
  3. information on the people (artists / curators / policy-makers / commentators) and institutions (governments, museums, galleries, corporations, publishers, etc.) active in the Japanese art scene;
  4. insight into the way that Australian contemporary art is received within the Japanese art scene;
  5. information on opportunities for Australian artists / institutions in the Japanese art scene;
  6. information on the efforts of other countries to gain exposure in the Japanese art scene.

It is hoped that by using this information Australians will be able to interact with and participate in the Japanese art scene in an informed, timely, constructive and, ultimately, successful way.
